Uses Throughout History

Peridot has adorned jewellery and sacred objects across continents for thousands of years with its deep greens and yellows anointing it the nickname of 'Gem of the Sun' in Ancient Egypt.

Across the globe, Peridot has been used for an array of different purposes. Egyptian priests embedded it into goblets to heal and mend illnesses, European envoys set it in churches and royal regalia and today it shines brightly amongst modern designs.

Even after all these years, Peridot hones its status and remains a popular choice for 16th wedding anniversaries and for those born in August, the month of the Leo zodiac, symbolising renewal, vitality, and warmth.

Despite its tell-tale greens and shimmering history, it's thought Peridot has been mistaken throughout history for Emerald or Topaz! Some even suggest it was actually often Peridot that Cleopatra considered the powerful Emerald she is known for.

Folklore, Healing & Magical Virtues

The mystique of the natural world

Fabled in both Eastern and Western traditions, Peridot is said to possess properties of inner radiance, sharpening the mind and helping those realise their destiny and spiritual purpose.

According to Roman folklore, Peridot's full potential comes to fruition when it's set in gold, giving it the power to rid the wearer of terrors, nightmares and fear of darkness.

In Hawaii, Peridot is considered to be the tears of Pele, the Goddess of volcanoes, fire, lightning and wind. Fragments of the fresh green gemstone sometimes wash ashore on Papakōlea Beach, echoing ancient volcanic origins and the creation of nature itself.

Throughout every era, Peridot has stood as a talisman of peace, prosperity, and emotional renewal. Today, it remains a token of growth and optimism, said to attract wealth, dispel negativity, and encourage restful sleep, making it a perfect gem for those seeking emotional clarity and positivity.
